This is a battery-operated electrical stethoscope. This stethoscope variety became available to practitioners in the 1980s. It relies on an electrical transducer which converts the body’s ‘auscultatory’ sounds into an electrical signal, which is reconverted by a speaker for improved audibility for the consulting practitioner.
