This is an Eschmann ‘Magnatone’ stethoscope, manufactured in approximately 1980. It reflects a design originally developed by Dr David Littmann of the Harvard Medical School. Like the Rappaport-Sprague design, this stethoscope is fitted with a ‘double-disc’ chestpiece which can be utilised for the identification of high and low types of ‘auscultation’ (body sounds). The Eschmann Company has been producing medical instruments since the 1830s.
