The National International Medical Graduate (IMG) Committee

The National International Medical Graduate (IMG) Committee is a committee reporting to the Board. Its role is to assist the Board and Faculties to better support the needs of International Medical Graduates in relation to the activities of RACGP advocacy, achieving Fellowship and supporting Fellows. The Committee’s objective is to foster a nationally consistent approach with regional interpretation and local delivery via the Faculties.

The Committee provides advice and recommendations to the Board regarding:

1. Representing and advocating for the interests and concerns of IMGs within the RACGP, ensuring their voices are heard and their perspectives are considered in decision-making processes.

2. Providing advice on IMGs professional development, career progression, and integration into the Australian healthcare system.

3. Developing recommendations for education and networking opportunities that foster collaboration and will support IMGs on their pathway to Fellowship and post-fellowship working in general practice.

4. Enhancing cultural competency training for RACGP members, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills to provide culturally sensitive care to diverse patient populations.

5. Contributing to the development of policies and initiatives that address the specific needs of IMGs, promoting cultural diversity and inclusivity, and enhancing cultural competency within the RACGP.
