The Council of Censors (CoC) role is to ensure the RACGP adopts and maintains an equitable, defensible, nationally consistent and coordinated approach to establishing and maintaining standards relating to education, training and assessment, to certification, re-certification and admission, and, to the recognition of qualifications and general practice experience. Admission to an RACGP Fellowship provides legal, professional, social, and financial standing, entailing both privileges and responsibilities within the Australian community. The CoC plays a key role in maintaining confidence that a doctor is competent to provide unsupervised safe general practitioner services for the Australian community. The CoC meets approximately 13 times per year. Its membership includes the Censor representatives from each state and territory as well as national representatives for rural health and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
