The WA ADHD GP Training Program has been developed to improve access to timely, equitable diagnosis and treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) across Western Australia. Increasing demand and long wait times for ADHD specialist services have significantly impacted individuals and families living with untreated ADHD.

This initiative strengthens access to ADHD care within primary care by expanding the role of specially trained general practitioners (GPs).

Developed by the RACGP in partnership with the WA Department of Health, the program aims to upskill specialist GPs across the State to diagnose ADHD and prescribe stimulant medication for patients aged 10 years and over who meet the clinical criteria. 

This addresses a major gap in public health service capacity across metropolitan, regional, and rural Western Australia.
