A Melbourne native, Thong completed his medical studies at Deakin University in 2013. He recently obtained his fellowship with the RACGP in 2020 training at a number of practices in Eastern Victoria. Prior to GP training, Thong completed internship and residency through Austin Health and Eastern Health.
He is currently practicing as a GP in Fitzroy North and a skin cancer GP in Beaumaris. He is also a teaching associate with the Department of General Practice at Monash University and the Eastern Health Clinical School. Thong has completed further studies in surgical anatomy at the University of Melbourne and paediatrics with the University of Sydney. He is currently also completing a Master of Medicine with a major on skin cancer medicine with the University of Queensland. Prior to joining the Victoria Council, Thong was on the Council of GPs in Training. When not caring for his patients, he enjoys catching up with friends for a coffee, he is always happy to talk about the footy and is a father of two beautiful, sassy daughters.
