Dr Paul Thu is a General Practitioner with almost a decade of experience practising across rural, regional, community, and private healthcare settings in Australia. Originally trained in Myanmar, he holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and completed his rural general practice training in Australia. He also holds a Graduate Diploma in Health Economics from the University of Adelaide.

Dr Thu has extensive clinical experience in rural health, community health, mental health, alcohol and other drugs (AOD) services, and healthcare for people experiencing homelessness. He currently works in private general practice in Melbourne and continues to provide locum services in regional and rural Victoria.

A passionate medical educator, Dr Thu has contributed to the Fellowship Support Program (FSP), the University of Melbourne, and Rural Workforce Agency Victoria (RWAV), supporting doctors working in rural communities. He is committed to mentoring international medical graduates (IMGs), GP registrars, and new Fellows as they navigate their professional development and careers in general practice.

His professional interests include health systems, health economics and policy, healthcare innovation, equitable access to care, quality improvement, GP wellbeing, leadership development, and GP-led models of care. He is particularly passionate about strengthening connections between general practice, health services, and community resources to improve patient outcomes, especially in rural and regional Victoria.

Within the RACGP, Dr Thu serves as Co-Chair of the RACGP–Psychiatry Liaison Committee, a co-opted Council Member of RACGP Victoria, and a member of the RACGP Victoria International Medical Graduate Committee.
