Why choose to become a Rural Generalist with RACGP?

We’re dedicated to supporting our rural members to obtain the Rural Generalist fellowship and guide you throughout the application process. We’ve streamlined the process making it easier to determine your eligibility and to apply.

What are the benefits to becoming a Rural Generalist?

Rural Generalist salaries are competitive and often come with additional benefits to compensate for the challenges of rural medical practice, including the Federal Governments Workforce Incentive Payments

If you’re interested in pursuing this career option, we provide a structured and supported RPLE pathway to gaining the necessary qualifications.

When Rural Generalist medicine is recognised as a new field of specialty practice, holding the Rural Generalist Fellowship means you’ll be formally recognised as a Rural Generalist and remunerated for the additional skills you use to support the needs of your rural or remote community.

FRACGP Fellows with FARGP or rural and remote experience

If you're a practicing RACGP Fellow (FRACGP) with relevant rural experience, provide advanced skills in your region, and/or you hold the Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP) or FRACGP and Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) by assessment, you may be eligible to apply for the RACGP Rural Generalist Fellowship (FRACGP-RG) on the recognition of prior learning and experience (RPLE) pathway.

A $450 recognition of prior learning and experience application fee will apply.

How do I apply?

  1. Review the RACGP-RG eligibility criteria
  2. If you need some help determining your eligibility, contact us on RG@racgp.org.au or check out the Frequently Asked Questions

FRACGP Fellows without FARGP or rural and remote experience

  • 6 months of core emergency medicine training
