The RACGP has updated the application process for GPs who hold specialist registration in general practice by assessment and would like to apply for Fellowship of the RACGP (FRACGP).

Successful applicants gain a professional home within the RACGP, access to CPD and peer support, and broader opportunities for supervision, leadership and education roles. The pathway complements and supports workforce flexibility across rural and urban settings.

Eligibility - experience and evidence

When you apply for the Fellowship Recognition Pathway you will be asked to provide evidence of education and recent work experience in Australian general practice. You will also need to have an attestation or reference from a current, financial member of the RACGP.

To check if you are eligible for the Fellowship Recognition Pathway, please review the list of required documentation below. You may want to prepare these before starting the application.

Evidence

In your application, you will need to provide the following information:

  • RACGP ID number. If you don’t have one, you can sign up for free on the RACGP website
  • Ahpra registration number (and evidence of no addenda)
  • Current curriculum vitae (CV) (we recommend using the RACGP template)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate (completed within the last 12 months)
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certificate (completed within the last four years)
  • A copy of your ACRRM Assessment Logbooks (LoGS)
  • ACRRM Letter of Good Standing
  • Name change documentation (if applicable)


Experience

In your application, you will need to provide the following information:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of (full time equivalent) work as a general practitioner, or rural generalist, in Australia over the past 10 years. This must include a minimum of 18 months (full-time equivalent) in comprehensive general practice, i.e., working in an undifferentiated primary care setting.
  • This experience can be evidenced with statements of service, letters of employment and letters of support from the practices you've worked. Each item should be on practice letterhead and include the specifics of the work you did.

For each Australian general practice post that you have included in your application, you need:

  • a separate practice description
  • a letter of support from the practice

The letter of support must:

  • be on practice letterhead
  • state the specific dates you worked there
  • state whether you worked full time or part time and total hours worked each week. For example – Dr X worked full time at the practice generally working 40 hours per week which includes Monday to Friday from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm and every second Saturday from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm
  • state the exact nature of the work you are/were required to cover, including the duties you performed
  • state the hours spent in both face-to-face and telehealth consultation
  • state the range of presentations and demographics of patients be dated and signed by the Practice Principal (preferably) or Senior Medical Director, CEO, Director, or Practice Manager


Attestation

In your application, you will need to provide the following information:

  • A completed and signed attestation form from an existing RACGP Fellow
  • Attestation form
  • Processing fee of $415 will apply
  • RACGP membership fee
  1. Review the eligibility criteria (listed above)
  2. Gather your supporting documentation:
    1. Completed application form
    2. Completed and signed attestation form
    3. Supporting documentation for evidence and experience
  3. Submit these documents to recognitionfellowship@racgp.org.au
  4. You will be sent an invoice for the processing fee
  5. You will be notified of the outcome decision via email

Upon attainment of FRACGP you may also be eligible to apply for the RACGP Rural Generalist Fellowship (FRACGP-RG) if you have relevant rural generalist experience.

If you intend to seek both FRACGP and FRACGP-RG, you may submit a single combined application.

In addition to the Fellowship Recognition Pathway application requirements, you will need to provide further evidence demonstrating your rural generalist experience including:

  • Evidence of advanced skill and currency
  • Evidence of minimum 12 months FTE rural community general practice in an MMM3-7 location within the past 5 years
