RACGP Rural education

Education and training

GPs in rural and remote areas often face challenges that are quite different to their urban located colleagues, such as distance and isolation, lack of or out-dated resources, harsh environments and lack of professional support, to name a few.

The situations that GPs in rural and remote areas encounter require them to be creative, flexible, skilful and resourceful. They need a range of skills to be able to deal with situations where they may be the only person able to provide the level of care needed.

RACGP Rural aims to support our rural members and offers a number of resources.

RACGP Rural manages the fellowship program for rural doctors, the Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice (FARGP).  A core requirement of the FARGP is the completion of 12 months of Advanced Rural Skills Training (ARST) in an accredited training post.
