CPD case-based discussions

The Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) CPD case-based discussions is a continuing professional development activity that has been designed to support GPs who are already implementing FPS with patients, evaluating their practice, and further developing their skills.

This course is for GPs who:

  • have completed Level 1 Mental Health Skills Training and Level 2 Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training (FPS ST)
  • are using FPS in their practice
  •  have a requirement to complete FPS CPD to maintain their registration with Medicare Australia as a GP provider of FPS.

For GPs who are interested in starting to use Focussed Psychological Strategies, please consider our fully online, Accessible Focussed Psychological Strategies Skills Training.

This course provides a clear, viable mental health skill acquisition pathway for GPs consisting of a series of thought-provoking, small group case-based discussion sessions facilitated by a GP with specialist experience in mental health.

Each participant will present a case and through peer-group discussions, participants will extend their FPS skills by exploring the intervention methods they currently use. Participants will also review challenging cases and develop strategies for addressing barriers to achieving best practice.

This activity is offered via the Zoom platform and comprises of four, two-hour case-based discussion sessions. Registrants will be asked to select their group session times from an available list.

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:

  1. Evaluate the provision of Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) in the context of general practice

  2. Reflect on FPS service provision based on feedback and critical review
