Cognitive behavioural therapy skills for general practice

An online learning activity

The course provides GPs with foundational CBT skills to use in their general practice and is ideal for GPs who have completed mental health skills training (MHST) and wish to include CBT in their clinical practice.

RACGP Rural developed the cognitive behavioural therapy skills for general practice active learning module (CBT course) in collaboration with gplearning in 2016.

Whilst the module is aimed at rural GPs, it will be a useful resource for any GP interested in gaining skills in psychotherapy.

The course is an online activity (via gplearning) providing rural GPs with greater access to mental health skills training. It is comprised of six interactive learning modules; each taking one hour to complete.

The course focuses on six areas:

  1. Introduction to CBT
  2. Assessment, formulation and treatment planning
  3. CBT in action: focus on depression
  4. CBT in action: focus on anxiety
  5. Challenges in CBT
  6. Additional considerations
