Dr Abby Harwood, Remote Vocational Training Scheme Representative

Dr Abby Harwood has practiced as a Rural Generalist for more than 20 years. She fellowed with a FRACGP and Grad Dip Rural in 2000 with advanced skills in emergency medicine, obstetrics and paediatrics, and has a DRANZCOG, DCH, MPH and GradCert in OHS Management. She has previously practiced as a GP Obstetrician, and currently holds advanced skills in Emergency Medicine and Obstetrics, and works with extended scope in Paediatrics, Palliative care and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. She has worked in rural/remote communities across Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland, and with RFDS.  She is a thought leader in remote health, and is passionate about enabling accessible, equitable and culturally appropriate health care for those in rural and remote Australia. She feels most at home in the most isolated areas of Australia’s north, and enjoys travel, photography, camping, fishing, cooking and spending quality time with her dog.  She returned to Perth, where she grew up, in October 2021, and initially worked as the Director of Clinical Training of the Rural Generalist Pathway WA and Year 5 Coordinator at Curtin Medical School. She now works with WA Country Health Service Command Centre in the Inpatient and Emergency Telehealth Services, as a Medical Educator with RVTS and is Editor in Chief for the ANZ version of Elsevier’s Clinical Cases for medical students on the ClinicalKey Student platform.
