Deidre Stark is a rural generalist with emergency skills who has had the privilege of working in some of Australia’s most remote and disadvantaged areas.
She studied at University of Queensland before completing her FRACGP fellowship and then further emergency training at Logan Hospital which equipped her for her next adventure, a rural generalist fellowship based out of Mount Isa. Working for Royal Flying Doctor Service she conducted fly-out clinics to Urandangi, Gregory Downs, Djarra, Burketown, Camooweal and Boulia, and was the Medical Lead for Primary Health Care. She is currently Senior Medical Officer at Gatton Hospital, not too far from her family’s Clifton grain and dairy farming roots.
Deidre loves training the next generation of rural doctors. She is accredited with ACRRM and RACGP, has been an examiner for RACGP, recruited doctors to the RFDS and on the University of Queensland’s selection panels for medical students.
She has worked in teams from Weipa in FNQ, Aurukun on the Cape, to Port Lincoln in South Australia as well as remote Aboriginal communities and hospitals like Mornington Island (Qld), Gunbalanya (NT), Coober Pedy, Oodnadatta, Andamooka, Marla and Innamincka (SA).
Working for RFDS SA/NT, she has responded to emergency calls from Aboriginal communities, boats, trains, mines and remote stations, as well as doing retrievals and conducting fly-in clinics.
In 2023 she took a 9-month leave of absence to work full time in Voluntary Assisted Dying helping patients throughout Queensland.
