New Fellows Committee

Last updated 12 March 2024

The Committee

The NSW&ACT Faculty is committed to supporting New Fellows in their career journeys and utilising our committee to assist in developing educational, networking and advocacy for this particular group.

The RACGP defines New Fellows as people who have achieved their FRACGP/FARGP within the last five years.

The focus of the new Fellows Committee is to:

  • play a key role in supporting New Fellows through their crucial first five years of independent practice
  • provide support, advocacy, mentorship and facilitation of personal development and career/professional guidance for new Fellows with up to five years’ experience post-Fellowship
  • identify areas of need and develop relevant education, materials and resources
  • promote a sense of belonging and representation
  • enable networking opportunities and encourage peer support through professional and social avenues.

Chair of the NSW&ACT New Fellows Committee, Dr Nisha Prabaharan, welcomes you to the New Fellows Committee with this message:

“Welcome to this year of the New Fellows Committee. My name's Nisha, and I'll be the chair this year. Currently I work between two Sydney practices - one in inner Sydney and the other much more suburban.

This year, I'm really hoping we can get more engagement from New Fellows, not only in attendance at our activities but also in terms of more ideas as to what purpose they want our committee to serve. Hopefully, we're able to run 3-4 activities this year - whether they be educational, networking, business-related or a bit of everything. If we're doing really well, it would also be amazing if we can foster a way to form small mentoring/support networks between new fellows who are geographically close.”
