About the Standing Strong Together award
Each year, RACGP Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health presents the Standing Strong Together award to a Fellow, member of the RACGP or an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who have contributed to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The award winner will receive a commemorative trophy which will be presented at RACGP’s annual conference. The RACGP will fund the winners' (two representatives) return economy class airfare and accommodation to attend the Academic Session and Fellowship and Awards Ceremony at the annual conference.
The most recent recipient of the Standing Strong Together award for 2018 award was Dr Kishan Pandithage. Dr Pandithage is a GP, medical educator and general practice supervisor demonstrates an outstanding commitment to support Indigenous doctors as they work towards Fellowship in the Northern Territory. He is considered a strong ally in building and strengthening the Indigenous GP workforce and his commitment to improving Indigenous health outcomes and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander doctors and the communities they serve is widely recognised.
Dr Fernando and the Glen Centre worked together to establish a new medical clinic at the facility. The medical clinic employs a multi-faceted approach that engages the centre’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, reintroducing them to primary healthcare.
