The President is the face and voice of the RACGP. The President is the RACGP’s main spokesperson and will engage on upwards of 200 media issues each and every year./p>

Working closely with the Board of Directors, the CEO and the Executive Leadership Team, the President plays a key role in representing the organisation in the public eye as the college transitions into the next stage of its development.

The President shapes the RACGP’s advocacy efforts and leads the RACGP through Australia’s ever evolving healthcare environment.

As a strong communicator with an approachable style, the President uses leadership experience and a high level of intellectual and emotional intelligence to drive change at the college.

The President governs the RACGP on behalf of its members and provides advice to RACGP Councils, Faculty Chairs, Chairs of RACGP Expert Committees and the CEO.

The President is an RACGP Fellow elected according to Part 7.2 of the Constitution. The President hold office for two years and cannot serve consecutive terms. The President can serve non-consecutive terms. Presidential elections are held in accordance with the RACGP Elections Policy.  

The President is elected by way of a ballot of eligible members on a preferential voting basis. Even numbered years are currently election years for the President. A call for nominations is made to notify of an upcoming election.

Nominations for RACGP President closed at 12.00pm (AEST) on Monday 1 August 2022.

Candidates may wish to supply the following materials in support of their nomination (materials must be provided before the nomination is assessed as a valid nomination):

  • for distribution with Ballot materials, a statement not exceeding 1000 words and a colour photograph of themselves (min 600x600 pixel jpeg file)
  • for placement on the RACGP website, statement of up to 2000 words, a curriculum vitae of no more than 2000 words and a short video (5 mins in duration) including its transcript.

Voting in the RACGP President’s election

The voting period for the RACGP President elections is from 12.00pm (AEST), Monday 29 August 2022 until 12.00pm (AEST), Thursday 8 September 2022.
Eligible voters will receive an email from our Returning Officers at OGL Group from the email address racgpreturningofficer@gmail.com. The email will contain your unique voting link to submit your vote via the BigPulse voting platform.
You may receive periodic reminder emails from the returning officer during the voting period if you have not submitted a vote in the election.
