The RACGP’s Vision for general practice and a sustainable healthcare system (Vision)
Australia’s health system faces a range of pressures: an ageing population, an increase in chronic and complex diseases and increasing costs for patients, providers and governments. To address these pressures, the RACGP developed its Vision, which was released on 21 September 2015 at the RACGP’s annual conference.
Since its release, the 2015 Vision has formed the basis of the RACGP’s advocacy strategy. It proposed a re-structure of the funding system to better support the delivery of quality, sustainable and effective patient healthcare, designed to meet the needs of patients, GPs and governments.
2018-19 review of the Vision
In 2018, the RACGP commenced a review of the Vision led by a working group of GPs and practice managers, many of whom were involved in developing the original document.
In February 2019, the RACGP released the White Paper – Vision for general practice and a sustainable healthcare system for member and stakeholder consultation. Feedback was received from a number of members as well as key organisations working in the primary healthcare sector.
The RACGP is currently considering the feedback received, and intends to release the final version of the Vision later in 2019.
