RACGP eHealth webinar series


Developed and delivered by members of the RACGP Expert Committee – Practice Technology and Management (REC—PTM) and eHealth experts, the RACGP eHealth webinar series will present monthly webinars throughout 2019, on eHealth topics pertinent to general practice.

Webinars are free of charge for all participants.

Recordings will be available at the conclusion of each months webinars.

All webinars are accredited for two, Category 2 RACGP QI&CPD points for the 2017-19 triennium.


 

Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme

The Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme came into effect in February 2018 and applies to all agencies and organisations with existing personal information security obligations under the Privacy Act. These obligations extend to general practices.

These webinars are designed to assist GPs and general practice teams understand the NDB scheme and their obligations for assessing and responding to potential data breaches in their practice.

These webinars were delivered by the RACGP in conjunction with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) between 19 -21 February, 2019 and a recording is available below.

Medico-legal concerns and My Health Record

Every Australian known to Medicare or the Department of Veterans Affairs will have a My Health Record created for them by March 2019, unless they chose to opt out between 16 July and 31 January 2019.

Concerns have been raised regarding medico-legal consequences for GPs participating in the system.

Information Security in general practice

Information security is critical to the provision of safe, high-quality healthcare and the efficient running of a general practice. It is a fixed cost of doing business to ensure business continuity and the protection of information assets.

Information security involves prevention of inappropriate access, protection of personal information and preservation of practice data.

These webinars are designed to assist GPs and general practice teams understand their information security obligations under the RACGP Standards for general practices (5th edition) as outlined in the resource Information security in general practice, released in February 2018.

SafeScript – Real time prescription monitoring for controlled drugs

SafeScript is computer software that allows prescription records for certain high-risk medicines to be transmitted in real-time to a centralised database which can then be accessed by doctors (or nurse practitioners) and pharmacists during a consultation.

From April 2020 it will be mandatory in Victoria for all prescribers and pharmacists to check SafeScript prior to writing or dispensing a prescription for a high-risk medicine. There is a view to roll out SafeScript nationally.

This webinar is designed to assist GPs understand SafeScript and their future obligations regarding its use.
