Policies and procedures

If a practice reprocesses reusable medical devices onsite or offsite, it must have policies and procedures describing every aspect of instrument and equipment reprocessing, in accordance with the current relevant standard.

These are guided by:

• assessment of the probability of harm to a patient and the likely seriousness of the harm
• feasibility considerations
• instructions for use by manufacturers of reusable medical devices and manufacturers of reprocessing equipment.

Single-use items must not be reprocessed.
