Resource requirements

The practice needs to provide any required resources to:

• implement all practice reprocessing policies and procedures
• implement quality assurance
• ensure that staffing levels are sufficient to maintain the continuous, safe and efficient operation of the reprocessing area (consider staffing levels when planning any significant changes to reprocessing activities)
• establish and maintain the area needed to achieve conformity with requirements for reprocessing activities (See Managing the area for reprocessing for reusable medical devices)
• procure reprocessing equipment
• provide supporting services
• endorse training and ongoing education
• ensure legal and insurance coverage is in place to manage risks associated with reprocessing activities, including potential mishaps or adverse events.

Consider the quantity and capacity of equipment needed for safe and effective reprocessing of reusable medical devices. Plan to have backup equipment available for use during maintenance, repairs, and unexpected interruptions to business as usual. Consider future growth to handle increased demand over time.
