Environmental sustainability

A sustainable practice

There are many decisions that you make as a business owner that can affect the environment, from the construction and renovation of a building, to the purchase and disposal of equipment and clinical supplies.
For example:

  • if you are building or renovating your premises, you could reduce your environmental impact by installing insulation or solar panels. If you’re renting, you could ask the owner to contribute to the cost, as these improvements will increase the value of the building.
  • when you decide to purchase equipment, you can purchase items made from recycled materials and have the old equipment properly recycled.

Adopting sound environmental practices for your business not only benefits the environment, but can also reduce your costs and make your business more viable.

  • Turn off computers and appliances where possible to save energy.
  • Reduce or eliminate junk mail. • Recycle whenever you can.
  • Install solar panels or wind technology, or purchase "green" power
  • Aim for a paperless office. • Use energy-efficient lighting and appliances, such as refrigerators.
  • Buy recycled paper, and stationery and toilet paper made from recycled paper.
