Managing pandemics in general practice
Last revised: 28 Jun 2024
Prevention, preparation, response and recovery are key principles in pandemic management that are consistent with Australia’s overall strategic approach to emergency management, disease outbreak or otherwise.
In general practice, infection prevention and control should form part of everyday practice. Pandemic preparedness activities should be part of regular practice management activities and reviewed periodically. The more prepared a practice is, the more effective their overall response and recovery effort will be.
Although it is widely recognised that general practice services are extremely busy, it is strongly recommended that practices take time to undertake rigorous prevention and preparedness activities.
