Managing emergencies and disasters in general practice

Module 2 - Response

Managing the team

      1. Managing the team

Module 2 – Response | Managing the team

Your Emergency Coordinator or other designated team member(s) should:

  • ensure that all team members are aware of the situation at hand, as well as their various assigned roles and responsibilities,
  • check who is and isn’t available and make any necessary updates to your emergency response plan accordingly,
  • check who and who does not have access to a smart phone or device (this information will impact your team’s communication strategy),
  • identify any injuries, and
  • check the team's immunisation statuses and organise relevant vaccinations, if appropriate.

Activate your practice team’s group messaging system. Start communicating through the messaging system (or ‘group chat’) now to help ensure all vital information is being received by the whole team.

Consider naming those who do not have access to a smart device in the group chat so that other members of the team understand that they must be contacted in other ways with important information.
