About the PEP

Last updated 4 July 2022

The PEP is a self-directed education and support program for non-VR doctors working towards Fellowship in regional,
rural and remote Australia. It is delivered across the country in partnership with training organisations and is funded
under the Non-Vocationally Registered Fellowship Support Program as part of the Australian Government Department
of Health’s Stronger Rural Health Strategy.

The program allows you to focus on your individual learning needs and the areas of Australian general practice most
relevant to you. The minimum program duration is two terms (12 months) and the maximum time is five terms providing
the educational time is finished by 30 June 2023 when the Government funding ends.

The content of the program includes online learning units, which are largely practice-based, and a comprehensive number
of workplace based assessments (WBA). The learning units are not compulsory but the WBA components are.
Participants can benefit from the support, guidance and educational advice of a specialist GP medical educator from their
assigned training organisation.
