PCOS affects around 13% of women of reproductive age. While patients may present with complaints relating to fertility, menstrual irregularity, acne and hirsutism. While these concerns need to be addressed, doctors need to also be aware of the long term potential metabolic complications of PCOS, in particular diabetes and heart disease. This session will concentrate on the biochemistry of PCOS and what tests are useful in risk assessment of metabolic complications.
