Vic Alt-Wednesday webinar - June - ADHD in Women - Gender blindness in psych research

On-demand recorded 7 Jun 2023

There is growing recognition of the different mental health issues and requirements facing women. Prof Kulkarni believes women’s mental health is different from men’s needs due to biopsychosocial factors yet there is a paucity of research looking specifically at women. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in women is an example that has been widely reported in the media recently and hence GPs are reporting a significant increase in patient inquiries. However, work force issues mean timely diagnosis and treatment from specialist services is difficult to get and expensive for patients. General Practice is well placed to diagnose and manage ADHD however this is work in progress.

Learning outcomes

  1. Gain better Insight into issues with gender blindness in psychiatry research and its effect
  2. Obtain overview of issues in diagnosis of ADHD in adult women (as an example)
  3. Know where to access latest guidelines on ADHD diagnosis and treatment
