The moments you spend with her matter: supporting women to have alcohol-free pregnancies
On-demand recorded 28 Mar 2023
The National Health and Medical Research Council’s (NHMRC) Australian guidelines to reduce health risks from drinking alcohol (the Alcohol Guidelines), advise that women who are pregnant or planning a pregnancy should not drink alcohol.
This webinar will provide evidence about the risks of drinking alcohol during pregnancy, the effects of prenatal alcohol exposure and will provide insight into the impact of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) on people’s lives.
Through the webinar, GPs will develop a range of tools and strategies to have regular, best-practice conversations about alcohol with patients who are pregnant or trying to conceive.
Learning outcomes
- Increased understanding of the risks of alcohol consumption during pregnancy and when trying to conceive, including at low consumption levels.
- Increased awareness of the importance of discussing alcohol at all stages of pregnancy, particularly at the pre-conception planning stage and in early pregnancy.
- Increased understanding of how to discuss alcohol with patients who are pregnant or trying to conceive, sensitively and effectively.
