In this course we’ll delve into the rising rates of syphilis in New South Wales, particularly among key at-risk populations. This session will cover best practice approaches to syphilis testing and management, the importance of identifying priority groups for screening, the critical role of partner notification and contact tracing in preventing further transmission, and antenatal syphilis testing. You’ll also gain valuable insights into syphilis support services available across the state. Dr Vani Arjunamani, MBBS, FRACGP, is a full-time clinician for over a decade. She enjoys evidence-based chronic disease management and preventative health care in high risk populations. As a RACGP Supervisor she imparts a systematic approach to multimorbidity to her registrars. She champions general practice to medical students from the University of Sydney. Her passion is to encourage chronic disease management as central to Women’s Health.

Sexual health physician
Dr Kym Collins started life as a GP, but found it so incredibly difficult to keep up to date in EVERYTHING, that she moved sideways into Sexual Health in 2000. She completed her fellowship whilst raising her three children and now works as a Staff Specialist and VMO in regional publicly funded sexual Health Clinics on the Mid North Coast of NSW and in Albury, Wagga and Griffith. She is painfully aware of the realities and time constraints of GP and passionate about supportive GPs to do sexual health more efficiently and confidently
Dr Miriam Grotowski
Clinical Dean - Peel Clinical School University Newcastle Department of Rural Health
Dr Miriam Grotowski is a Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the University of Newcastle Department of Rural Health (UONDRH) based in Tamworth. Miriam Graduated from UoN with a Bachelor of Medicine in 1989, completed her FRACGP in 1995 and has undertaken a Diploma in Psychiatry (Eating Disorders). She completed her Masters in Medical Education (Dist.) through Dundee UK in 2020.
