Enhancing GP care for patients affected by domestic and family violence
The Lorikeet Clinic is an innovative integrated medical, forensic and psychosocial clinic for people who have experienced domestic and family violence. While based in Northern Sydney Local Health District, the clinic offers valuable insights, resources and specialist expertise relevant to all GPs working with patients affected by violence.
This webinar will outline best‑practice approaches to integrated trauma‑informed care and psychosocial support for patients experiencing domestic and family violence.
You will learn how specialist services like the Lorikeet Clinic complement general practice, promote continuity of care, and support GPs working with people affected by violence.
The session will explore how health professionals and partner services work with the clinic to improve health, safety and wellbeing for people of all genders and sexualities who have experienced domestic and family violence in the past 12 months.

- Describe the role of integrated medical, forensic and psychosocial services in supporting patients experiencing domestic and family violence and how these services complement general practice care.
- Demonstrate trauma‑informed clinical approaches to identifying, assessing and responding to domestic and family violence in general practice settings.

Dr Shamini Ramoo
Dr Shamini Ramoo is a Staff Specialist and Adult Clinical Lead, Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse, and Neglect (PARVAN). Shamini is a Fellow of the Australian College of General Practice and has a Masters in International Public Health (Honours) and a Masters of Forensic Medicine. Shamini is an experienced GP and leads the PARVAN Adult Medical Forensic Team. Shamini was instrumental in setting up the Lorikeet Clinic, an integrated, trauma-informed clinic for patients who have experienced Domestic and Family Violence.
Dr Mary Stewart
Dr Mary Stewart works for the Northern Sydney Local Health District Prevention and Response to Violence, Abuse, and Neglect (PARVAN) Service as a Senior Career Medical Officer. Mary has a Masters in Public Health and a Masters of Forensic Medicine and is a PhD candidate at the University of Sydney where she is researching the understanding and experience of the medical forensic examination. Mary works in the Sexual Assault Service as a medical forensic examiner and was instrumental in setting up the Lorikeet Clinic, an integrated, trauma-informed clinic for patients who have experienced Domestic and Family Violence.
