NSW ADHD reforms – expanding GP care of ADHD

On-demand recorded 9 Sep 2025

The NSW Government has recently announced a plan to expand the scope of GPs participating in reforms designed to improve access to care for people with ADHD. These reforms include enabling GPs who have completed specific additional training to prescribe psychostimulant medicines for stabilised patients, without the need for a formal agreement with a psychiatrist, pediatrician or neurologist.
Other reforms to allow GPs to diagnose and initiate psychostimulant medicines are also underway.
This webinar will cover:

  • An overview of the reforms
  • Pathways to participate in the reforms
  • A clinical update on ADHD
  • SafeScript NSW and refresher on psychostimulant prescribing
  • Website and resources to support the reforms

Learning outcomes

  1. Update knowledge on the ADHD reforms in NSW.
  2. Recognise pathways for GPs to become ‘continuation’ or ‘endorsed’ prescribers.
  3. Increase knowledge in ADHD presentations and care, with paediatric, young person and adult considerations.
  4. Understand SafeScript NSW, and how to write a psychostimulant script.
  5. Identify available resources, including the ADHD website.
