Managing Grief and the GP’s Role

Webinar 1 Dec, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM (AWST)

The way grief and bereavement manifests can differ dramatically from patient to patient. It is therefore vital that GPs are aware of the variable presentations of normal grief and are able to identify pathological grief.

This webinar will provide strategies to support grieving patients, helping to alleviate the physical and mental health issues that result from complicated, severe and prolonged grief.

Presented by Associate Professor Lauren Breen, School of Psychology, Curtin University, this webinar explores strategies to help GPs respond to distress, providing informative and practical support.

Learning outcomes

  1. Develop an approach to caring for the grieving patient in primary care
  2. Identify the features of normal grief processes versus pathological grief. Outline ways for GPs to identify these in general practice and how to help patients
  3. Outline a range of support strategies that will facilitate the development of coping behaviour in the grieving patient
  4. Identify resources available to practitioners and patients
