This webinar will explore why sexual wellbeing is a health issue and the differential diagnosis of low libido/approach to the diagnosis of low libido.

The session will discuss trauma informed and sex positive approaches to sexual history taking including the PLISSIT model and will also provide practical approach for assessing the bio-psycho-social contributors to sexual arousal/desire.

Learning outcomes

  1. List the bio-psycho-social contributors to optimal sexual dysfunction.
  2. Outline the importance of healthy relationships and DV screening.
  3. Rational prescribing/QUM as it relates to sexual dysfunction.
  4. List practical suggestions for options of treatment based on assessment

Dr Sara Whitburn
Chair, RACGP Sexual Health Medicine Specific Interest Group and Medical Director, Sexual Health Victoria

Dr Sara Whitburn (she/her) is the Medical Director at Sexual Health Victoria and the Chair of the Sexual Health Special Interest Group of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. She was awarded her RACGP fellowship in 2009. Sara has diplomas in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Family Planning and a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Teaching. Sara completed a 6-month Academic GP registrar term and has worked in general practices and family planning clinics in the UK and Melbourne. She has specialised in Sexual and Reproductive Health since 2008 and is interested in genital health, menopause, and long-acting contraceptive provision and training in general practice.

Dr Ashlea Broomfield
Specialist GP, Sex & Relationship Therapist and Clinical Director of eluceo

Dr Ashlea Broomfield is a Specialist GP with recognition of extended skills in psychological medicine and advanced training in sexual and reproductive health, and mind-body therapies. She provides holistic, patient-centered care, integrating mind and body in the practice of medicine and supports both individuals and couples through trauma-informed sex and relationship therapy to deepen intimacy, enhance sensuality, and build healthy relationships. Ashlea’s additional qualifications include a Master of Medicine (Sexual and Reproductive Health – Psychosexual Therapy), a Diploma in Child Health, a Professional Diploma of Medical Nutrition Management, and Fellowship of the Australian Society of Psychological Medicine. She is also a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner and Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician. She is the founder and Clinical Director of eluceo, a health hub in Woolgoolga, NSW, and has previously served as the Co-vice Chair of the NSW & ACT Faculty and Chair of the RACGP NSW & ACT New Fellows Committee.
