Following the success of our February webinar, join us for Part 2 of our Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) webinar series. This extended 90 minute webinar will explore complex case scenarios, offer practical guidance to strengthen confidence and competence after training, and offer tips and strategies for establishing and sustaining rural LARC services, including information on funded training opportunities.

You’ll gain insights into:

  • How to set up and grow LARC services in rural and remote settings
  • Strategies to increase community awareness and improve client uptake
  • Building referral pathways and attracting clients
  • Practical strategies from field experience
  • The AUSLARC outreach model, including rural and remote training opportunities and how you can get involved.

Learning outcomes

  1. Apply strategies to manage complex LARC case scenarios and enhance clinical confidence and competence following initial training.
  2. Identify practical steps to establish and grow LARC services in rural and remote settings, including increasing patient awareness, building referral pathways, and promoting service uptake.
  3. Describe how the AUSLARC program supports clinician training and service delivery in rural and remote communities, including opportunities for GP involvement.

Dr Romey Giles
MBChB, FRACGP, MForenMed, GC ClinEd

Dr Romey Giles (she/her) is a General Practitioner, Senior Medical Educator, and Forensic Medical Officer based in West Gippsland on Gunaikurnai Country. She works across Gippsland and Melbourne, specialising in women’s and sexual health, menopause care, contraception, abortion services, and gender-affirming medicine. With over a decade of experience in medical education, Romey is passionate about empowering both clinicians and patients through evidence-based information and shared decision-making. She currently serves as Senior Medical Educator – Training Pipeline Portfolio Lead (VIC) with the RACGP and is also a course facilitator with Monash University and Sexual Violence Response Training Australia.

Dr Sara Whitburn
Chair, RACGP Sexual Health Medicine Specific Interest Group and Medical Director, Sexual Health Victoria

Dr Sara Whitburn (she/her) is the Medical Director at Sexual Health Victoria and the Chair of the Sexual Health Special Interest Group of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. She was awarded her RACGP fellowship in 2009. Sara has diplomas in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Family Planning and a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Teaching. Sara completed a 6-month Academic GP registrar term and has worked in general practices and family planning clinics in the UK and Melbourne. She has specialised in Sexual and Reproductive Health since 2008 and is interested in genital health, menopause, and long-acting contraceptive provision and training in general practice.

Anum Khan (she/her)
BHSc, MN, GDip ScMed SRH (HIV & STIs)

Anum Khan is a registered nurse, nurse educator, Implanon train the trainer and IUD inserter with extensive experience in sexual and reproductive health. She is the AUSLARC Project Officer at Sexual and Reproductive Health Australia, where she leads a national initiative delivering long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) training scholarships to health professionals across Australia. Anum holds a Master of Nursing and a Graduate Diploma in Science in Medicine in Sexual and Reproductive Health (HIV & STIs) from The University of Sydney. She has worked across metropolitan, rural and international settings, specialising in contraception, cervical screening, HIV and STI management. She is passionate about strengthening the sexual and reproductive health workforce and improving equitable access to care.
