Better Conversations, Better Care: Supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sexual Health in NSW

This webinar will support GPs and primary care clinicians to deliver culturally safe sexual health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients. Through case-based discussion, patient lived experiences and practical NSW-specific resources, the session will explore strategies to increase STI and BBV screening, testing and management in general practice, including the role of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Assessment (MBS item 715).
Participants will gain practical tools to confidently initiate sexual health conversations and provide culturally appropriate care that supports improved health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate culturally safe approaches when providing sexual health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.
- Identify models of care that improve access to STI, HIV and BBV screening and testing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Explain the role of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Assessment (MBS item 715) in supporting preventive and sexual health screening in general practice.
- Describe key epidemiological trends and historical factors influencing sexual health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
