Hosted by RACGP Victoria Faculty and Dr Sally Cockburn, these will be interactive panel discussions and promise to be entertaining and educational events!
In February 2022, in Victoria, the Sex Work Decriminalizing (SWD) Act was passed.(1) It is being implemented in stages to ensure a good transition to a different model of regulation. Particularly relevant to clinical general practice is that this Act repealed mandatory STI testing for sex workers and also working with a sexually transmitted infection. It also repealed offences for individual sex workers not using safer sex practices. (2)
The SWD Act had flow on effects that lead, in July this year, to amendment of the Victorian Equal Opportunity Act (3) to now include ‘profession, trade or occupation’ as a protected attribute.. The new protection ensures groups such as sex workers cannot be discriminated against because of their work.(4)
It is important that general practitioners understand these changes to the law to ensure best practice.
