There are a group of people in our communities who experience great harm due to undiagnosed and or untreated ADHD. This session will cover the diagnosis of ADHD and the impact of substance use and incarceration and discuss the role of GPs in early diagnosis and prevention of harm and approaches to care.

Learning outcomes

Review the diagnosis of ADHD in children and adults and the potential impacts of non-diagnosis.
Discuss approaches to care for adults with co-morbid ADHD, substance use and adverse experiences including incarceration

Dr Hester Wilson
BMed(Hons) FRACGP FAChAM MMH

Dr Wilson is a GP, Chief Addiction Specialist for NSW Health, Clinical Director for Murrumbidgee Drug and Alcohol and Clinical Advisor to Population and Community Health in South East Sydney LHD. She is chair of the RACGP Addiction Special Interest Group, a clinician with many years clinical and teaching experience, she is currently undertaking a PhD focused on GPs’ experience of patients with chronic pain and prescription opioid use disorder.

Adjunct A/Prof John Kramer has been a GP since 1981 based in Woolgoolga with special interest in Developmental Paediatrics, Indigenous Health, Mental Health, Medical Education, Refugee Health and Palliative Care. Dr Kramer was an RACGP Representative on the ADHD Guidelines Development Group 2019-2022. He is currently the Chair of RACGP Specific Interest Group - ADHD, ASD and Neurodiversity.

Dr Francis Olopade
