Lessons from ACCHOs: strengthening primary care through community-controlled models
‘If we get Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health right, it’s right for everyone.’ Professor Peter O’Mara, 2023,
ANTaR.
National Close the Gap Day is recognised on the third Thursday of March annually, a date chosen to focus on meaningful action towards health equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
To mark the day, the RACGP Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Faculty invites all members to join our webinar highlighting Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations’ (ACCHOs) models of care.
ACCHOs are leaders in culturally safe, holistic, community-led models of care that strengthen health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The Health of the Nation data shows 83% of GPs working in ACCHOs report high job satisfaction, compared with the overall average of 71%. This session explores elements of community-controlled models of care and what they may offer general practice beyond patient health outcomes.
You’ll hear directly from GPs working across ACCHOs and general practice who will share practical insights into the ACCHO model of care that can be applied in general practice.
GPs already provide exceptional, holistic care and bring deep expertise to their communities. This webinar offers the opportunity to
enhance cultural safety,
strengthen continuity of care and
contribute to health equity.
