Prof Marion Saville
Executive Director, Australian Centre for the Prevention of Cervical Cancer (ACPCC)
Professor Marion Saville AM is a cytopathologist and the Executive Director of the Australian Centre for Prevention of Cervical Cancer (ACPCC), a position she has held since 2000. ACPCC is a not-for-profit organisation with over 55 years of expertise in cancer prevention and population health through laboratory and medical education services, establishing and operating cancer screening and vaccination registries, and conducting world-leading research and data analysis.
Marion has served on cervical screening advisory committees in Australia, New Zealand and Ontario. She currently chairs the working group to review Australia’s Guidelines for the management of screen-detected abnormalities in the National Cervical Screening Program. Marion has worked closely with the Department of Health on various committees including steering committees for the renewal of the National Cervical Screening Program in 2017 and implementation of self-collection in 2021/22
Prof Deborah Bateson
Professor of Practice at The Daffodil Centre
Deborah Bateson is Professor of Practice at The Daffodil Centre, a joint venture between The University of Sydney and Cancer Council NSW, and formerly Medical Director at Family Planning NSW. Deborah has worked as a clinician, researcher, educator, and advocate in sexual and reproductive health for over 20 years with a focus on equitable access to cervical screening services and reproductive healthcare.
Deborah is leading an NHMRC study to increase cervical screening participation of people with intellectual disability, and is Chair of the National Cervical Screening Program Self-Collection Implementation Committee, Deputy Chair of the Quality and Safety Monitoring Committee and member of the Cervical Screening Guidelines Working Party.
A/Prof Megan Smith
Associate Professor Megan Smith co-leads the Cervical Cancer and HPV Stream at the Daffodil Centre, a joint venture between The University of Sydney and Cancer Council NSW. She is an epidemiologist and simulation modeller with extensive experience in policy evaluations for cervical cancer prevention that have directly informed screening policy decisions in Australia, New Zealand and England. She also works closely with cervical screening programs in Australia and New Zealand to support program monitoring, and has served on multiple advisory committees, including the NSW Cervical Screening Program Advisory Committee, Self-Collection Expert Advisory Group, NCSP Guidelines Working Group, and the New Zealand NCSP’s COVID-19 Impact and Recovery Advisory Group. A/Prof Smith is currently co-leading an NHMRC project looking at how to scale-up self-collection in primary care and has authored over 130 publications.
