Supporting children who are above a healthy weight and their families

On-demand recorded 23 Feb 2021

Childhood overweight and obesity is a major health issue in Australia, with one in four children above a healthy weight. Assessing a child’s growth can help determine any support needed for a family. Along with weight management, children and families are generally faced with a number of other competing health priorities. A whole family approach focusing on healthy eating, physical activity and behaviour change is more sustainable than focusing on weight itself and can benefit their general health too.

Learning outcomes

  1. Recognise the importance of conducting growth assessments on all children
  2. Identify evidence-based programs to support children above a healthy weight
