This webinar provides GPs with information and education on:

  • patient health outcomes

  • counselling patients to get the most from NRT or other evidence-based treatments

Learning outcomes

  1. Provide education to increase the understanding of effective smoking cessation strategies using evidence-based practices
  2. Understand the options to assist patients with smoking cessation
  3. Identify risks and benefits associated with different smoking cessation options including e-cigarettes
  4. Understanding of legislative changes as of 1 October 2021 for e-cigarettes and resources available for support including the RACGP guidelines
  5. How to manage refusing a prescription if it is inappropriate

Facilitator

Dr Trish Kahawita

Trish is a new GP fellow who is passionate about digital health, medical education, and doctor wellbeing. She has been practicing medicine for the last ten years and has worked all around Australia, in both urban and remote areas. Her main clinical interests include Women's and Children's Health, Mental Health, Neurology, Geriatrics / Palliative Care, and Tropical Medicine. She has just moved to Sydney where she will work as a medical educator for GP Synergy as well as being a community Palliative Care GP. She also volunteers as a peer support facilitator for junior doctors. She is excited about the future of primary care and the use of innovative health technologies.

Dr Hester Wilson
FAChAM, Chair RACGP Specific Interests Addiction Medicine

Dr Hester Wilson is a GP, addiction specialist and Chair of RACGP Specific Interests Addiction Medicine. Hester has many years’ experience working with people with addiction issues in both general practice and specialist settings and the lead clinician in the GP liaison in alcohol and other drugs (GLAD) project in South East Sydney Local Health District. She is a Conjoint Lecturer and PhD candidate, School of Public Health and Community Medicine, University of New South Wales.
