Duncan Poulson
Duncan Poulson is a 57-year-old public servant who has lived in the Northern Territory for the past 25 years with his wife Kathy. Together they raised two sons, which meant that for many years Duncan’s interactions with GPs were largely focused on other people’s health rather than his own. More recently, Duncan has discovered that he is, in fact, also a patient. This has involved more regular GP visits, asking slightly better questions, and participating in men’s health and fitness programs - sometimes enthusiastically, sometimes cautiously, and occasionally with mild confusion. On the panel, Duncan will share his lived experience of navigating primary care as a middle-aged man: what helped, what didn’t, and what made it easier to engage, and stay engaged.
