Adj Prof Karen Price is the immediate past President of the RACGP. After two years in the role she has steered the profession through a pandemic, federal and state elections and a major policy review of national General Practice strategy, training, workforce and funding. Karen will continue to lead the organising committee of WONCA in Sydney 2023.
Karen was awarded the 2016 RACGP FMCER grant to undertake her PhD with the Monash Department of General Practice. She is exploring the construct of peer-connection in general practice exploring GP’s well-being, and goal-directed informal learning.
Karen continues to see patients clinically which continually informs and deepens her lifetime experiences. She has chaired committees and developed mentor programs for both the AMA and the RACGP.
Karen has presented internationally; on women’s medical leadership; social media; resilience, and informal learning. She is published on women’s medical leadership and received a 2011 Monash University award for medical student teaching. Karen has retained key interests in the framework of gender approaches to policy, learning, and support for both patients and practitioners since her involvement in the Women in General Practice Committee of the RACGP. She was chair from 2012-2014 and co-chair for 2014-2018 and remains a member of the committee. In 2021 she received the President’s award from the AFMW for national leadership.
Dr Michael Wright is a GP and health economics researcher.
Dr Wright is Chair of the RACGP Expert Committee, Funding and Health System Reform and Deputy Chair Person of the NSW and ACT Faculty Council.
Currently working part-time in general practice in Woollahra, Sydney, Dr Wright has previously been employed in the UK National Health Service, been a practice owner, a salaried GP and GP contractor. Michael’s research interests include investigating the value of continuity of care in Australian general practice (the subject of his PhD), and funding reforms to the Australian health system.
As well as being a busy GP and RACGP Fellow, Dr Wright holds many other roles in the health system including a research position at the Centre for Health Economics Research and Evaluation (CHERE) at the University of Technology, Sydney and Chair of the Central and Eastern Sydney Primary Health Network (CESPHN).
