This 1-hour interactive webinar provides an innovative and engaging learning environment for GPs to improve their knowledge, skills and confidence in assessing and managing opioid use for patients.

Specific sessions will cover topics including:

  • An overview of the latest research on opioid related harms in Australia
  • Understanding the difference between acute and chronic pain
  • Treatment options for people with problematic prescription opioid use
  • Regulatory requirements and recent changes

Learning outcomes

  1. Know the role of opioids in acute pain and chronic non-cancer pain
  2. Identify high risk co-prescribing
  3. Identify patients with high-risk opioid prescribing, and develop a treatment plan for patients with high risk prescribing
  4. Describe the regulatory requirements for S8 prescribing

Dr Tim Senior is a GP at the Tharawal Aboriginal Corporation in South West Sydney. He is Medical Advisor to the RACGP in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and is a clinical senior lecturer in general practice and Indigenous Health at the University of Western Sydney.
