GPs role in palliative care: Management and support options

On-demand recorded 9 Jul 2020

GPs play an essential role in the management and coordination of care for patients with life-limiting illnesses, however many GPs choose not to deliver palliative care.

Concerns over inadequate clinician support, emotional duress, perceived skill in symptom minimisation and the prospect of managing challenging symptoms are a few of the contributing factors for this reluctance.

This webinar provides GPs with support and strategies to navigate the multifaceted clinical and psychosocial elements influencing the palliative care patient and family members.

This webinar is presented in partnership with Cancer Council Australia, Palliative and Supportive Care Education (PaSCE).

Learning outcomes

  1. Describe the principles of palliative care and recognise the role of the general practitioner in end of life care
  2. Outline symptom minimisation and management options available to general practitioners
  3. Identify support and resource services available to general practitioners
