Evidence Based Recommendation for Managing Obesity in Children

On-demand recorded 2 Dec 2020

Childhood overweight and obesity is a major issue in Australia, with one in four children above a health weight or well above a healthy weight. Multicomponent interventions that promote healthy eating, physical activity and behaviour modifications are more effective than single interventions. The Go4Fun program is a free evidence-based program for children aged 7-13 years who are above a healthy weight and their families. The 10 week program involves weekly two hour sessions. The first hour the whole family learns about healthy eating and in the second hour, the children participate in games-based physical activity, whilst the parents have a discussion around behaviour change.

Learning outcomes

  1. Be aware of the current evidence-based recommendations in managing childhood obesity
  2. Utilise evidence-based programs to support children above a healthy weight
