Dr Miriam Grotowski
Clinical Dean - Peel Clinical School University Newcastle Department of Rural Health

Dr Miriam Grotowski is a Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the University of Newcastle Department of Rural Health (UONDRH) based in Tamworth. Miriam Graduated from UoN with a Bachelor of Medicine in 1989, completed her FRACGP in 1995 and has undertaken a Diploma in Psychiatry (Eating Disorders). She completed her Masters in Medical Education (Dist.) through Dundee UK in 2020.

Dr Belinda Chan
Breast and General Surgeon

Dr Belinda Chan is a highly trained Specialist Breast Surgeon and provides the highest quality of comprehensive informative patient care. Dr Chan obtained her Fellowship in General Surgery in 2011 with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons. Dr Chan’s international experience includes specialist post-Fellowship training at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in Singapore, and the well-renowned L’Institut du Sein in Paris, France. Dr Chan speaks Cantonese and some basic Mandarin. Dr Chan is currently accredited and appointed at Macquarie University Hospital, Chris O’Brien Life House (public and private), Strathfield Private Hospital and Breastscreen NSW.

Associate Professor Louise Koelmeyer
BAppSc(OT) Usyd, PhD Macquarie

Louise is an occupational therapist with over 30 years of clinical experience in both public and private settings specialising in breast cancer rehabilitation and lymphoedema management. As Director of the Australian Lymphoedema Education, Research and Treatment (ALERT) program Louise is involved in strategically managing and developing the education, research, and treatment arms of the innovative multidisciplinary program. Louise has led the ALERT Education Program’s redesign and development of their educational offerings to conform the ALA’s Competency Standards and Macquarie University’s micro credentialling and curriculum architecture frameworks. Louise was awarded her doctorate at Macquarie University in April 2021 in “Enhancing the prospective surveillance and early intervention model of care for women at high risk of developing breast cancer-related lymphoedema.” Louise has been leading and teaching in the ALERT Education Program since its inception including offering ALA accredited programs under the ALERT banner. She develops and presents education workshops and advanced skill-based units on all aspects of assessment and management of lymphoedema locally, nationally, and internationally. Louise is a current member of the Australasian Lymphology Association (ALA), Australian Society of Breast Diseases (ASBD), the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia (COSA) and the NSW Lymphoedema Practitioners Group.

Dr Karen Shaw
Breast and General Surgeon

BMedSc, MBBS (Hons), MS, GradCertSurg (Breast Surgery), FRACS Dr Karen Shaw is a Breast and General Surgeon who obtained her Fellowship of RACS in 2015. She has a special interest in breast surgery for both benign and malignant conditions. She is committed to effective communication with patients and their care team to optimise health outcomes. Karen completed her MBBS, Master of Surgery and Graduate Certificate in Breast Surgery at the University of Sydney. Her Clinical Fellowships include being a BSANZ Fellow at Concord Hospital in 2017 and the Concord Clinical Surgical Superintendent in 2018, where she gained valuable experience in clinical care, governance, training, and teaching.
