What GPs in WA need to know about Measles and Rabies

In partnership with the WA Department of Health, this webinar will provide general practitioners with practical updates on two notifiable diseases relevant to both local and travel health contexts.

The webinar will cover current measles epidemiology in WA and globally, its implications for travel health, and practical guidance on clinical presentation, testing, isolation protocols, and managing exposure after patient departure. We’ll also explore rabies features, risks for travellers, exposure management, and post-exposure prophylaxis, along with how public health can support general practice. This webinar is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools to effectively manage these infectious diseases.

Dr Alexander Shivarev
Consultant Public Health Medicine & Human Biosecurity Officer

Dr Alexander Shivarev is a public health physician, working with the WA Country Health Service across both the South West and Great Southern regions. He is affiliated with the Communicable Disease Control Directorate (CDCD) and has contributed to the understanding and management of outbreaks and diseases like syphilis and monkeypox. He also serves as a clinician at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Dr Anastasia Phillips
Public Health Physician, Boorloo (Perth) Public Health Unit

Dr Anastasia Phillips is a public health physician with the Boorloo (Perth) Public Health Unit where she is medical lead for the immunisation team. The team offers support to all immunisation providers in Perth and undertakes public health programs which aim to achieve and sustain high immunisation coverage. She is an affiliate Research Associate with the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance, where she completed her PhD in vaccine safety, and an Honorary Research Associate with The Kids Institute Australia.
