Off-label prescribing in Australia

Other RACGP online events

Originally recorded:

24 September 2026

This webinar will discuss and explore off-label prescribing and its role in our daily practice. This session aims to develop an understanding of the risks, benefits and necessity of off-label prescribing, while recognising the gravity it deserves and the need for specific procedures depending on the treatment and clinical situation.

Join this panel to discuss what constitutes an appropriate consent process, whether additional monitoring is required based on the available evidence, and how these principles apply across different craft groups and medications. The session will explore how we, as a group of general practitioners, should approach our practice and medico-legal responsibilities when prescribing off-label, particularly in evidence poor areas.

Learning outcomes

  1. Define off-label prescribing.
  2. Outline your duties and obligations associated with off-label prescribing.
  3. Identify prescribing that are potentially at-risk practices.
