Diabetes educators: A team approach

The prevalence of diabetes has increased significantly all over the world in recent years. The number of people in Australia with diabetes has grown from 1.5% of the population in 1989 to 4% in 2013.1 ‘Diabetes is a comorbidity of many illnesses and diseases and, on top of that, there are often a lot of other issues related to behavioural health or psychological issues,’

Dianna Fornasier, a registered nurse, clinical nurse consultant and Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE), told Good Practice. ‘It is a really complex disease and I think that is what really gets people down, that it is not as simple as what they want it to be.’
